Lyme Disease- Ticks? Who Knew?

It must have been August of 2001 when I was bitten by one of these ugly creatures. I really never knew. I just got sick. I never had the famous "target" rash, nor did I see the little blood sucker enjoying a meal in my skin. For months, just about the time of 9/11/2001 all I can remember is being sick and in pain. Lyme Disease is one of the most mis-diagnosed diseases in the U.S. and one of the fastest rising diseases. The typical Lyme patient will see many doctors, spend a lot of money and suffer untold misery before he or she is properly tested for and diagnosed for Lyme disease. It is important to note here that most people, if bitten today by a tick and properly treated by a 10 day course of antibiotics, would be cured nicely. The chronic form of Lyme, the kind that goes untreated is where the incurable form of Lymes come in. In coming posts, I hope too be able to inform you and educate you about the seriousness of this terrible disease. I will just tell you, for now, is that I was in bed for almost two years and I thought I was dying. My primary care physician did not know what to do with me. My wife's fibromyalgia Dr., in Denver, finally figured it out and diagnosed me. (God Bless Her) Dr. Labair at The Fibromyalgia and Fatigue Center. She saved my life. There is no cure for Chronic Lyme Disease, but she has me up and functioning, pretty well, at this point. But I write this, because I can't tell you all how much I have suffered over the past seven years and how much the disease has altered my life. There are so many other people out there who are suffering with this disease, that do not know where to turn, or how to get help. Many think they will never get better. I am here to prove to everyone that it is possible to come from the pits of pain and suffering to function and the prospect of a life. So, I hope to be able to supply some good sites and links for Lyme patients and their loved ones on this blog from what I have learned over the coming months. I know of many good books too. I try to keep up on the latest research going on too and will try to follow that, as well. In summary, one never expects to get really sick. It is a very humbling experience. I still can't believe it some days. But it has given me a different perspective on life. I never took my health for granted, but I know that I would trade every earthly possesion that I have right now to have it restored to where it was before that little black creature decided to bite me. Best of Health!!! to you all!!

About Me

My photo
Pueblo, Colorado, United States
I am a Chronic Lyme disease patient. I was bitten by a tick in 2001 and have been very sick ever since. Subsequently, you could say I am a Lyme disease junkie.I thirst for any information about it,any treatments, research etc. It has been a life altering experience, which has kept me away from our business and at home most of the time. I use to own A-1 Barricade and Sign Inc. here in Pueblo, Co, but because of the Lyme disease, my sons are running the business for the most part with my wife. I have been married for 48 years to a wonderful woman who is also my best friend. We have five children, all grown. Four boys live here in Pueblo and my only daughter lives in Bonney Lake, Washington. We miss her a lot. I have 7 grandchildren, which are the greatest of all. They are all exceptionally beautiful! The last thing you need to know about me is that I am proud to be a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Because of this I have the knowledge that life is eternal and that it does not end here, but it will go on after death because of the Atonement of Jesus Christ. This truth I bear witness of!
